Windsor recruits Board of Governance for Sunshine Coast DMO

One of Windsor’s most exciting projects came to culmination recently when the Sunshine Coast Council gathered to welcome the Board of Governance for its new tourism entity, the Destination Management Organisation. (DMO)

Work on the new structure to support the local tourism industry had been underway since Council and Coast tourism leaders agreed on a broad framework for reform last March.

Council also decided that recruiting a shortlist of outstanding non-executive Directors from which to purpose-build a balanced and objective Board should be put to Expressions of Interest.

After winning the tender from several worthy opponents, Windsor Recruitment set to with enthusiasm to identify and attract high-value candidates from the top tier of professional Directors.

This multi-level process included producing compelling advertisements for worldwide electronic job boards and the executive employment sections of major newspapers.

‘Absolutely overwhelming response’

Windsor CEO Dylys Bertelsen reported that the response from quality candidates was ‘absolutely overwhelming’. ‘Hundreds of applications poured in from prominent and well-qualified people from along the east coast of Australia,’ she said.

‘It was humbling to realize that each one of these busy professionals was prepared to stretch themselves further by assuming the responsibilities of a Director of this nonprofit enterprise,’ she said.

After an exhaustive recruitment process, a selection of applicants was finally submitted to Council who made its decision based on Windsor research, reports and its own series of interviews.

‘It has been heart-warming and gratifying’, said Dylys Bertelsen ‘to be publicly praised for the professionalism and positive outcomes of our work by various senior stakeholders at Council, including the Mayor, Cr. Bob Abbott.’

Cr Abbott is on record as saying about the new Board: ‘We are very fortunate to have individuals of this calibre to help the local tourism industry enter the next phase in its development and continue to expand in an extremely competitive marketplace.’
