The Smith Family's Back 2 School Day

Back 2 School Day is The Smith Family’s fundraising event for the big kid in all of us…
And it’s as easy as 1… 2… 3…

There are lots of ways you can get involved

Businesses: at your workplace and invite everyone to dust off the old school uniform and "come as they were", with food, fun and games.

Schools: reverse roles for the day as teachers and staff come dressed in school uniform, and the kids come dressed as what they want to be when they grow up.

Individuals and clubs: get sponsored to dress up and hold your own recess break with your friends and family.

It’s all happening in April. Register your interest now and Smith Family will send you an email next year when it is time to grab your old school tie, break out the fairy bread and let the fun and games begin! Pre-register for 2012

And it’s all for the best cause of all – our Aussie kids!

More than 100,000 disadvantaged children are being supported nationally through The Smith Family.  But with one in 10 Australian children currently living in disadvantage, there’s a high need for more help. We need to make sure that these children get the help they need to make the most of their education so they can break the cycle of disadvantage for good.
To find out more visit www.back2schoolday.com.au

And let the fun begin!

Christmas Appeal 2011 - Mission Australia

Australians all let us rejoice?

Not all Australians know the joy of Christmas.

On Maggie’s first Christmas, her dad left and never came back.

Maggie

Her second Christmas was spent in a public housing unit, surrounded by strangers, while her mum worked to make ends meet.

Just after her third Christmas, Maggie was abused by her brother for the first time.

Thousands of Australian families like Maggie’s won’t be rejoicing this Christmas.
Many of them are suffering from domestic abuse, are homeless or simply going through a tough time.

We need your help to change Australian lives for good this Christmas.

Help us make this Christmas a time to rejoice for all Australians. Donate to our Christmas Appeal.

Mission Australia

$30 can help pay for a parenting workshop that aims to reduce child abuse
$60 can help pay for a qualified Case Manager for a child in need and their family
$90 can help pay for crisis or medium-term accommodation for a family in need

Please give to our Christmas Appeal today. Donate now.

Get Quackin'
It's time for the Great Brisbane Duck Race

GBDR 1

The Team Duck Race Challenge is part of the PA Research Foundation’s signature fundraiser the Great Brisbane Duck Race.  And it all happens by the river at West End on Sunday 30 October.

An event to celebrate those who have battled cancer, remember those who have lost their battle, to fight back against the disease and help find ways to live in a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
So we are asking you to get quacking and take on the Team Duck Race Challenge
to support this important cause!

The Team Challenge is your opportunity to stand out from the rest of the flock in Brisbane, duck out your Race Duck, work as a team, win prizes and raise funds for cancer research.

Those who participated last year had a ball.
This year, it’s an even bigger event with the duck race, team challenges – and more.
So, get staff and partners together and have a great day out on the river.
And enjoy a picnic hamper as part of the fun and festivities of the day.

So get your team together, register your duck and you’re away!

You can elect to pay for your duck upfront.
Or use the supplied fundraising form on the PA website to register your team’s duck.
When organisers send out your Team Duck Race Kit you’ll be equipped with all the tools and resources you need for the fundraising to qualify your duck for the race.

Once your team qualifies, you get

  • an invite to the pre event launch party,
  • a picnic hamper and beverages on the day,
  • the chance to participate in team challenges
  • and of course the opportunity race your duck!

The Smith Family

Smith Family 1

The Smith Family is a national, independent children's charity helping disadvantaged Australian children get the most out of their education.
The Smith Family believes that education is the key to changing lives and supporting a child's education is the most effective way of breaking the cycle of disadvantage and ensuring access to the same learning opportunities as their peers.

By supporting The Smith Family through sponsorship you will be providing practical support with a disadvantaged child's education - both financial and emotional.

Your sponsorship will help by providing financial support to pay for basics like books, shoes and a complete school uniform, as well as course materials and extra-curricular activities like school excursions.

Sponsored students are teamed up with a Learning for Life worker who offers encouragement and support with their schooling and links them to mentoring and vital life skills programs to help them break the cycle of disadvantage.

Sponsorship also gives students motivation just by knowing that someone they haven't met cares enough to invest in their future.

The Smith Family will provide you with information as to how your support is making a difference.

For more information see : The Smith Family

The Mater Little Miracles Appeal provides a unique opportunity to help Mater deliver exceptional health care to some of the state’s sickest children and premature babies.

There are lots of easy and fun ways to become involved with the appeal from purchasing or selling Miracle MaX merchandise at work or school to holding your own Mater Little Miracles fundraising activity such as a dress-up day.

Help Vinnies To Make Tomorrow a Better Day
2010 Christmas Appeal

At St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies), we speak with many Australians suffering hardships throughout the year and encourage them to share with us what a day in their life is really like.

Many have walked us through a day living homeless on the streets: others suffering mental illness have expressed their anguish and social isolation. And families have told us of their daily struggle to feed, clothe and shelter their loved ones.

One common theme to emerge from listening to fellow Australians was that crippling financial problems are nothing compared to the emotional grief and anguish such hardship brings.

Every day, the St Vincent de Paul Society receives thousands of calls for help, and the added pressure at Christmas time sees this increase significantly.

This Christmas, you can help the St Vincent de Paul Society to make tomorrow a better day for people in need.

Your support will enable us to continue to provide material and financial assistance, essential support services, advocacy and friendship to Australians experiencing disadvantage.

To make a secure online financial donation to the 2010 Christmas Appeal and help support the work of the Society, please click donate now.

Wishing you a happy and safe Christmas from everyone at the St Vincent de Paul Society

Stay on track by having friends, family & work colleagues as your sponsors.

You’ll reap the health benefits of your new habit. And patients at the Mater will gain by increased funding for research into diabetes and cancer.

  • You can dust off that old exercise bike and clock up a few k’s.
  • Get out the jump rope and give that a go each morning.
  • Dance to the radio while you make yourself a lovely lunchtime salad.
  • Invest in a half hour of yoga
  • Do your stretches then swim a few laps

Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital

RBWH Foundation Logo

“In the 12 months after being diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease (MND), my wife’s walk became a shuffle, her hands started to close and her whole body altered. Her body just wouldn’t do as she asked. Before long she was wheelchair-bound, forced to use a light-writer to communicate and I had to become a full-time carer. She passed away just 19 months after diagnosis.”Paul, husband of an MND sufferer treated at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. (Paul and wife Linda pictured) Paul and Linda (husband and wife)

MND is a debilitating condition which can affect anybody at any age. It is a disease where the patient’s brain remains active but stops communicating with the body – effectively leaving the patient trapped in own their body. There is currently no cure for MND – it cannot be stopped or slowed down. Money is needed to undertake research to determine reliable markers of the disease progression and ultimately a cure.
