Scientists are predicting that in future people may be choosing their ideal
career based on the results of an MRI scan of their brainwaves.
Vampires might fly?
No, it’s true.
Recently, when 40 participants consulted the Johnson O'Connor Research
Foundation, a nonprofit that provides psychometric assessments for vocational
guidance, they were sent on to the University of California.
There, when researchers studied their brains via magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI) they found ‘structure patterns that correlated with different kinds of
ability, such as speed of reasoning, numerical skills, spatial awareness, and
memory, as well as general intelligence.’
These results accurately mirrored test scores from a matched run of
traditional mental tests.
Study leader Dr Richard Haier, said: 'A person's pattern of cognitive
strengths and weaknesses is related to their brain structure. So… brain scans
could provide unique information… helpful for vocational choice. Our current
results form a basis to investigate this further.'
