Ebay Acquires MissionFish
The
popular online auction website, eBay, has acquired MissionFish,
the nonprofit behind eBay’s Giving Works program.
It was acquired from the Points of Light Institute, the
organisation that has already succeeded in raising almost $250
million for U.S. and UK nonprofits.
The eBay Giving Works program allows
sellers to give proceeds from their sales to a favourite charity
and helps NFPs raise funds by selling on eBay too.
Nonprofit can also receive donations from eBay
users through the Donate Now feature, which lets anyone with a
PayPal account donate right away – without buying or selling
anything.

The
European Commission has apologised for printing more than three
million school diaries containing no reference to Easter or
Christmas.
The diaries note Sikh, Hindu, Muslim and Chinese festivals, as
well as highlighting ‘Europe Day’ which falls on May 9.
But the lack of any acknowledgment of Easter,
Christmas or any other Christian holiday has angered church
leaders and politicians.
1932 Uni dropout finally graduates,
aged 99
A US man forced to drop out of university in 1932 has finally
earned his degree at the age of 99.
Leo Plass, of Redmond, US
recently received the qualification he set out to earn almost 80
years ago from Eastern Oregon University in La Grande.
He was less than one semester away from graduating from what was
then Eastern Oregon Normal School to start a career as a teacher.
But this was the Great Depression. It was obvious that a teaching
salary of $US80 ($A75.21) a month wouldn’t cut it. So, when a
family member offered him a job on a logging team at $US150
($A141.02) a month, Plass couldn’t pass it up.
Later – much later – the school contacted him. By taking a few
classes and passing a few tests, the veteran scholar finally had
the credits he needed to earn the degree, awarded on June 11,
2011.
Since he turned 100 on 03 August 2011, Mr Plass says he has no
intention of starting a new career at this stage.
