Ebay Acquires MissionFish

The popular online auction website, eBay, has acquired MissionFish, the nonprofit behind eBay’s Giving Works program.

It was acquired from the Points of Light Institute, the organisation that has already succeeded in raising almost $250 million for U.S. and UK nonprofits.

The eBay Giving Works program allows sellers to give proceeds from their sales to a favourite charity and helps NFPs raise funds by selling on eBay too.

Nonprofit can also receive donations from eBay users through the Donate Now feature, which lets anyone with a PayPal account donate right away – without buying or selling anything.

Who managed this project?

The European Commission has apologised for printing more than three million school diaries containing no reference to Easter or Christmas.

The diaries note Sikh, Hindu, Muslim and Chinese festivals, as well as highlighting ‘Europe Day’ which falls on May 9.

But the lack of any acknowledgment of Easter, Christmas or any other Christian holiday has angered church leaders and politicians.

1932 Uni dropout finally graduates, aged 99

A US man forced to drop out of university in 1932 has finally earned his degree at the age of 99.

Leo Plass, of Redmond, US recently received the qualification he set out to earn almost 80 years ago from Eastern Oregon University in La Grande.

He was less than one semester away from graduating from what was then Eastern Oregon Normal School to start a career as a teacher.

But this was the Great Depression. It was obvious that a teaching salary of $US80 ($A75.21) a month wouldn’t cut it. So, when a family member offered him a job on a logging team at $US150 ($A141.02) a month, Plass couldn’t pass it up.

Later – much later – the school contacted him. By taking a few classes and passing a few tests, the veteran scholar finally had the credits he needed to earn the degree, awarded on June 11, 2011.

Since he turned 100 on 03 August 2011, Mr Plass says he has no intention of starting a new career at this stage.

Help yourself to a better outcome

It’s a numbers game

At Windsor, we put an enormous amount of time and effort into caring for our candidates. And we think we do pretty well at it. But, no matter how hard and how long we work at present, we are all fighting against the odds.

Top 10 Interview Tips

There’s been a lot written lately about how different cultural up bringing in various western and Asian societies (purportedly) leads to different styles of performance and behavior in the workplace. But could that be just another convenient stereotype?

This ‘How to’ article from Asiaco Jobs Center clearly illustrates that there’s really very little difference between the expectations of professional behaviour from job seekers whether they’re in Sydney or Ho Chi Minh City..

Staff compete for free breakfast at Tatts

Although it lives the maxim ‘right person for the job first time,’ there’s a lot more to The Windsor Group than adroitly matching candidates to client opportunities.

Part of Windsor’s commitment is to ‘give back’ through programs that return significant earnings to the non profit sector. No: that’s not a misprint. Windsor Recruitment has traditionally given – in both good times and not so fruitful – a valuable percentage of its annual profit to the nonprofit sector.

Do Something!

Do something! is a new nonprofit organization that works hands-on to bring about positive social and environmental change. It looks at what Australians want and need to improve their lives and the conditions around them – and then gets in and does something about it!

Take the issue of phosphate use in Australia. Although barely begun, this proactive little nonprofit has already succeeded in negotiating a phase-out ban. Here’s how Do Something! went about that.

How to un-google a faux pas

We all know what a faux pas is. It’s French for ‘false step’ or ‘That’s not what was meant to happen!’

More often these days it has come to mean's that you’ve made a disastrous blunder, foot-in-mouth and posted something on your website (or in a blog somewhere) that you wish you’d never said.

Social networking sites expose rioters

Britons took to social networking sites to expose rioters who were on the rampage for four nights, by posting photos of (the mostly) masked gangs looting and hurling missiles.

Much of the violence was captured on mobile phone cameras, video recorders or CCTV. Images quickly found their way into cyberspace.
