Off the back of a truck…

Old Aussie lingo for ill-gotten gains “off the back of a truck” came true last week for some Dutch motorists.

When cash fell from a bank transport truck, pandemonium reigned as the banknotes whirled across the busy A2 highway near Maastricht.

Opportunist drivers stopped abruptly to race out from their cars and scoop up a windfall before driving off at speed. It was not clear how much cash was lost, or how it could have fallen from the truck.

Police in Limburg confirmed in their Twitter feed that “it briefly rained bank bills”.

Older candidates benefit from better preparation

Recently, I was asked to give my age (which is 65!) to a medical service provider. As soon as I did, what had previously been a pleasant phone call immediately turned sour – and I was effectively ‘shut out.’

In a recruitment setting, it’s perfectly natural to judge maturity by the timbre of a candidate’s voice, physical presentation and the ways in which individuals express themselves. 

Any of these aspects can work against an aspiring candidate. But there are ways you can counter negative impressions by paying more attention to what you say.
